The German Broadband Association (Bundesverband Breitbandkommunikation e.V. / BREKO) represents the majority of all alternative fixed broadband network operators in Germany. Its members pave the way for future-proof fibre infrastructure and currently account for around 70 percent of the competitive FTTB/H deployment in Germany.
Since its foundation in 1999, BREKO has successfully promoted infrastructure competition in the German telecommunications market. The approximately 380 BREKO companies, including over 200 city and regional carriers as well as municipal utilities, supply both urban and rural areas, the "white spots", with high-performance fibre optic connections. To this end, they invested around 2.5 billion euros in 2019, generating a revenue of 7.8 billion euros. The BREKO companies are thus making a significant contribution to the nationwide roll-out of fibre and to achieving the broadband targets of the German government.
The BREKO network operators are still willing to make considerable investments in order to create the right foundation for digitalisation with fibre and to actively advance Germany on the path to the gigabit society. This requires appropriate political and regulatory framework conditions, which BREKO is committed to promoting with its expertise. The leading German Broadband Association has consistently positioned itself with a clear infrastructure goal - fibre to at least every building in Germany.
In the meantime, BREKO has become a strong association composed of the BREKO Association, the BREKO Purchasing Group and the BREKO Service Company. In this association we bundle the strengths of our members - to strengthen competition in the German telecommunications market!
