BREKO - The film

BREKO BroadbandStudy20

On 01 September 2020, the German Broadband Communications Association (BREKO), together with the renowned telecommunications expert and economist Prof. Dr. Jens Böcker, presented the jointly collected market data on the current situation in the telecommunications market. The results show a positive development of fibre optic expansion in Germany. The number of available fibre optic connections, the demand for fast internet as well as the investments in the expansion are increasing. The drivers of this development continue to be the alternative network operators. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Here you will find the market analyses of the BREKO. All the latest data and facts on the topic of fibre optics.

BREKO Broadband Study19

BREKO network operators with record investment in future-proof fibre networks Published: 21 August 2019 The German Broadband Communications Association (BREKO), together with the renowned telecommunications expert and economist Prof. Dr. Jens Böcker, presented the jointly collected market data on the current situation in the telecommunications market on 21 August 2019. Positive message and clear signal: the now more than 190 network operators of BREKO invested more in the telecommunications market in 2018 than ever before: they made investments of around 2.5 billion euros - and thus significantly exceeded the BREKO's previous year's forecast (2.2 billion euros). 80 percent of the network expansion is being carried out by the companies themselves without state subsidies. A particularly important finding of the market analysis: fixed network connections will not be replaced by mobile telephony in the future!

BREKO Broadband Study18

The BREKO Broadband Study18 of 26 September 2018 shows: The new federal government's focus on future-proof fibre is consistent - it is the only way to provide our country with the best digital infrastructure and thus the basis for growth and prosperity. Politicians and regulators must now focus on three important levers in particular in order to push the nationwide roll-out of fibre even more strongly: the needs-based further development of the federal subsidy programme including the introduction of vouchers for future-proof fibre connections to further boost demand, the urgently needed reform of the DigiNetz Act to prevent harmful over/double roll-out, and diversity and competition in future 5G mobile communications through a service provider obligation and regionally allocated frequencies in order to generate further investment funds for fibre roll-out.

Glasfaserjournal

BREKO is and remains the strong voice of competition. For some time now, our association has been the leading German fibre optics association and thus the central contact for politicians and the press on all issues relating to digital infrastructure.

In the Glasfaserjournal you will find insights into the association and the industry on the occasion of the BREKO's 20th anniversary.

The fixed network in Germany is booming

  •     1m new fibre connections in 2019 in BREKO
  •     Demand on the rise: take-up rate in fibre optic expansion at 43
  •     BREKO network operators realise more than 60% of fibre roll-out to buildings and homes

Fibre Compass 2018/2019

"Ending the broadband middle age - shaping the digital future".

  •     More than 82 percent of the expansion with fibre connections to the building (FTTB) or directly to the home (FTTH) is currently (as of mid-2017) being carried out by the alternative network operators.
  •     In 2020, it should be possible to supply around 5 million households and businesses via direct, self-built fibre connections of the BREKO network operators alone - currently there are around 1.5 million FTTB/FTTH connections of the BREKO carriers.
  •     As the dynamics of fibre roll-out will increase strongly in the coming years and only investments in pure fibre will represent future-proof business models, BREKO expects around 28 million households to be supplied with direct fibre connections by German competitors by 2025.
